White Water-lily (Nymphaea alba)

A water lily with large leaves that die back in winter. A fragrant flower so I'm told! Posted by Picasa

Sunday 2nd July

Phew! a bit of a scorcher. Went out about 8:00am, before it got too hot. Everything very still. Swifts and swallows were soaring above a bank of small trees and bramble, I assume that there must have been a lot of midgies and other flying insects. Water lilies were coming into bloom on the 'Fleet', took some photos. Water level on the lakes is getting low!

Another image of summer!

That little piece of wire appears to be an ideal swift resting place.

Saturday 1st July

With it being the weekend, decided to go out a bit earlier to avoid the crowds! Already very warm and only 7:30 am. Came across a 'colony' of Grayling Butterflies, about 20 in all, already very active in the warmth of the sun. Flock of Black headed Gulls still on the lake, Lapwings have moved on bar one pair.
