Herons and Mallards.

The Herons standing with their backs to the wind and rain. The Mallards are all brothers and sisters, haven't they done well Posted by Picasa

Tuesday 2nd August

Bring back the sunshine, I promise never to complain about the heat ever again!
Wet and miserable, had to be quick to take photographs. The pony was pleased to see me or was it my apple. As you can imagine we didn't hang around and there was nobody else brave enough to be out on the marsh at 7:00am.

Tree Wasps (Dolichovespula sylvestris)

These two were warming up before a days work! Several different types, identified by their markings, especially on the face. Here we see the single black spot of the Tree Wasp. Posted by Picasa

Carline Thistle (Carlina vulgaris)

Makes a change from purple flower heads. Still prickly! Posted by Picasa

Fleet Pond

Looking down on the Fleet from the slag heaps. The Potash Train was a bonus, if you like trains! Posted by Picasa

Monday 1st August

Cooler and overcast. Overnight rain has softened up the ground a little, which should help the Blackbirds and Thrushes. Not enough rain yet to make a difference to the marsh. Very quiet on the marsh, small flock of Lapwings doing nothing exciting. Mallards have bred well and are in various stages of development. Enjoy today's photographs.
